My Foot and New Shoe....
I went to a sports physician last week to have the doc in UH look at my foot, which has not healed for quite a while. Dr. Mohd Shariff was very patient in explaining to me my situation. He suggested that I have a plantar fasciitis injury. He didn't recommend me any foot insertions as mine was just a mild case. All I needed to do is to do some stretching excercise for the calfs will help with the healing. The other method was tapping, which he was kind enough to demonstrate it on my foot. But this he says, may or may not work in certain cases. I dont think Im going to spend time in tapping myself so much. I will just try out the stretching exercise and see if it works.
Tapping the foot arch
Anyways, I thought it was about time to change my shoe and it was great that I had a good deal from New Balance. I wanted to have a trainer which is lightweight but one that gives me enough cushion so as to not aggrevate my injury further. I need to increase my mileage/training soon, but I don't think my current shoe will last the distance. As it was the shoe which I feel that gave me the problem in the first place.
New Balance RC760 is what I got (pic above). Bought it just a day before I left for Kota Kinabalu to scale Mount Kinabalu with some friends. I have tried to run on the shoe today, trying to break the shoe before Sundown Half Marathon in Singapore. I don't have any expectation for this race as I have not been training regularly as I like to. Hopefully with the new shoe I'll have more confidence in increasing my mileage.
New Balance RC760
I went for an hour run with this shoe today and it felt good. It felt a little heavier than my previous shoes, Saucony Fastwitch 2 and Brooks ST Racer III. But it is giving me the support I need for a longer mileage. Will try to use it for a race to see it will perform well.
Got a good news that our team in Energizer Night Race will be receiving a Adidas Cash voucher soon. It will be sent out to the captain of our team (Ronnie). The email mentioned that 2nd place team will receive an exclusive adidas cash voucher worth RM450. I am hoping each of us will be given RM450. This is a lot better than the goodies they gave during the presentation. After a long letter and getting everyone's support, we managed to convince the organiser to fulfil their promise in giving cash vouchers as stated in the entry form. I am glad that the organiser listen and act on it. Well done Energizer! Hoping to get another shoe as an alternative shoe for training or racing.

5th Malaysia International Ekiden Run 2010
Had to wake up early this morning, i.e. 4.45am as I had to catch a Myvi Train coming from Kepong. Driver was non other than Captain Ronnie, a.k.a PM1. He is so kan cheong to reach there early so he wanted everyone to be the same. This time I didnt run to Lai's Putramas Condominium as in Energizer Run, as it was so early and I dont think I can make it in time @ 5.20am. So drove there and park near the condo. I was kind of worried when I saw some of the cars got summon tix, but it looked old, so could be abandon cars. Then when I got in Ronnie's car, he told me he got summoned when he went to Bidor couple weeks back. Never mind, I'll just take the risk.
Anyways, got there early of course....and started to gather our team and distribute the bibs. Then we waited for our respective buses. However, was kind of worried as the "C" buses did not move till 7.55am. Race starts at 8am. A miscommunication between the organiser's staff could spell disaster for us, as my team mate could reach my station and don't find me there! Luckily the start was delayed (as I found out from Ronnie at the end of the race, which affected his warm up).
As it came to my leg, we were 7th team, managed to overtake two other runners, got close to the other 2, but ran out of steam until I saw the final strecth after the turn uphill. Kind of late to give chase, but just to be sure I get as close as possible before passing my cloth sash to Casey. I knew he can overtake a lot of people, I bet he can run this race alone. He did indeed overtook 3 other runners and move us up to 2nd place. Michele got overtaken but managed to hold on to give us a podium finish! Well done!
The day turn out be like us stuffed inside a hot oven. It was just so hot that everyone tried to find shade around the buildings or tents!
Check out the huge medal!! And another smaller medal and a trophy.
And of course the certificate.....

Jog For Hope Is Back
Where: Entrance of Taylor's College, Sri Hartamas
When: 18 July 2010
Flag-off: 8.00am
Distance: 6km or 9km, depending on category.
1 Taylor’s Community Project, Charities:
a. Development Program of Bario, Sarawak
b. Malaysia Paws Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).
Jog For Hope is back again this year, and yet again, same day as Siemens Run. Why lah?! Seems like all the organisers are doing the last minute thing in cramping all events in July! Now I wonder whether I should go back and defend my title. : ) Highly unlikely as I've already signed up for Siemens, but never know, as I did the same too last year. It was a close finish last year. I was juct lucky the young guy gave up in the final 2km, whereas, I almost gave up earlier. Besides, this is so near my apartment.

Adination Run in Permaisuri & Sun Long Run
I went to Cheras Leisure Mall on Friday to register myself for SP Setia Eco Half Marathon. Met up with Kelvin there and he invited me for Permaisuri Adination Run, which happens at Taman Tasik Permaisuri every Friday. So I went and it was great to meet up friends from Permaisuri. Their usual Fri run covers 7km. I went with them for a lap before going on my own to add in some mileage.
After run, had dinner with Han and Brandon (who just got back into running after a long lay off being a high flyer in the corporate world). During dinner, both Han and Brandon showed so much enthusiasm and nothing but good comments in their recent trips up north in Cambodia and Laos. Both even considered moving there to do some goodwill work. We then met John and Wai Mun who were there to eat as well.
Today, went out for a 20km run which I have done for a while. Had pretty positive first half but tire the 2nd half of the run. Need some more mileage to get myself back into competitive fitness. I wouldn't dare to follow Don or Cecil today as I know I was just lose touch with them pretty quickly. It's also Don's 51st birthday today. And he just get faster the older he gets. So young men out there, don't keep using the excuses that you are too old to run! Look at Don, he is still running a sub-3:10 marathon time this year!
Next few scheduled races:
1. Ekiden Relay (16 May)
2. Sundown Half Marathon (29 May)
3. SP Setia Eco Half Marathon (5 Jun)
4. Standard Chartered KL Half Marathon (27 Jun)
5. Siemens Run 2010 - 10km (18 Jul)
Now I just realised I've got 3 Halfs in a month.....ciaklat!

Road Trip!
I took Joe to Batu Caves on Wednesday. After snapping some photos there, I drove him up to Genting Highland, a place, where I have not been for quite a number of years. The place hasn't changed much. The drive up was ok. We wanted to use the cable car at Gotong Jaya but the service was suspended as it was closed for maintenance. So we drove up and parked our car at First World Hotel. Roads were kind of confusing leading to the car park.
We did enjoy the cool air up in Genting, although it wasn't as cold as before, but it was a nice change of weather from KL. Then I remembered that Casey, the Running Chef, is working as a chef in one of the hotel, so contacted him. He invited us to Coffee Terrace in Maxim Genting Hotel.

We chatted for a while and stayed for dinner. Casey then mentioned my team mate from Energizer Run, Wei Xiang (team leader of Kakithon), is working as an intern in Genting. He came over too. So now, the Running Chef has a new running companion. Both are fast runners with Casey clocking a sub-3 hours marathon time a number of races.
There were so many varieties of food at Coffee Terrace that we just couldn't possibly try all of it! But Joe really did enjoyed his meal as he was saying he was just thinking about having all the food in one roof just the night before. And it happened!

Is Casey giving points/tips in running or cooking??
Joe took a flight out from KL this morning heading to San Francisco where he will spent months there and hopefully to land a job in Canada. As for me, I got to get back to my training soon.
