Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur Marathon 2010

Woke up early today at around 4.10am thinking I could rush to park below the High Court. When I got out, it started raining and worst of all, the police and DBKL already blocked the access to the carpark. Had to make one big U-Turn towars Bukit Aman to find parking. Luckily got a parking at DBKL's public gym.

Met up with Ray and Mich before walking towards Dataran Merdeka. I had to deposit my bag at the baggage counter before heading to the starting line. Queues at the baggage counters were long and by the time I got my bag checked in, the crowds at the starting were huge. So I had to squeeze my way thru to get as close as possible to the starting line but never got close to it. Anyway, wasn't too worried about it as I wasn't aiming for anything for this run. Mileage has been low for me in the past months due to illness and injury. So just using this as part of my training.

Gun went off, took me a while to get to the starting line and also getting thru the crowds after. Managed to get thru the human traffic after about 1.5km. Thereafter, just maintain my pace and not trying to push too hard. Caught up with couple of friends along the way, Adam, John, Daniel, etc. I guess I could have saved up some energy if I was standing in front at the start. Met Elmer to when we got on to Loke Yew Road near UE3. Haven't seen her for a while and she told me she just did the London Marathon and cracked her PB.

Most part of my race, I had someone to pace with. At first a Caucasian, who accompanied me for most earlier part of the race till UE3, then it just followed by some others I caught up with. There were couple of guys who overtook me but even if they did, i think I managed to catch up with them later on. Guess starting from the back helped me a little.

Picked up my pace as soon as I reached KL Tower since it wasn't too far from the finish line. Saw couple of FMVs (Full Marathon Virgins) - their T-shirts, along the way and just gave them some encouragement to go on. Then saw one of the Singaporean girl (whom I've seeing a few times in local races) just in front and I was just focused in overtaking her. Only managed to do it some 500-600m away from finishing line.

I saw the clocked ticking at 1:35 and was pushing hard to see if I can clocked a sub 1:36, but gave up with 100m to go. Just ran out of time. Anyway, pretty happy with my timing but I was pretty tired and my left foot started to hurt after a short rest.

Hopefully can build on my training from here but foot not looking that good at the moment.
