Talked about the Berlin blue track and here we have David Rudisha, the reigning African 800m champion, breaking the world record for that distance on Sunday (22 Aug), with a time of 1:41:09. He beat the previous record held by Wilson Kipketer, one of my favourite runners 1:41:11 set in Colonge, 1997. I think this is the only world record set this year. More news on Telegraph.UK.

Hope he betters Kipketer in terms of getting an Olympic gold medal. Rudisha has not won any major championship medals as yet so far but have threatened the world record in July this year and he won the African championship recently. As for Kipketer, he has won most major championship except for the Olympic gold medal. He came close in 2000, where he won a silver. He was the favourite in 1996, but was disallowed to compete in the Olympic for Denmark by the IOC. Hopefully, Rudisha can go on to win the World Champs and Olympic. This guy is only 21.
He followed the pacemaker in the first 400m in about 48.65s before leaving a big gap from the rest, coming home in 52.44 in the second 400m. Check out the race in You Tube.
