Arrived at the starting area quite early, more than an hour plus before the start time. Hang around the area chit chatting with some friends. There were quite a few activites around the area. Also, a lot of sponsors setting up their booths with some giving out free samples.
I did a little warm up just before going into the "cage". I made my way to the front as i don't want to get stuck and losing a few mins going through the crowds. I wasn't too sure how I was going to perform, as I hurt my calfs slightly from training. I was trying to do speed drills and speedwork in the week leading to the race. I had a weird feeling about my strides, guess it started after KL Towerthon. It seems like my left leg is not pushing as hard as my right and sometimes my strides are not going on a straight line. Keep knocking my foot against my own ankle. That's why I did the speed drills and speed workouts, but I won't do it on tar roads anymore as it is hurting my calfs and do not want to risk injuries, especially the knees. Not getting younger anymore. Will need to find softer grounds to train on after this.
Even it was a night satrt, I can still feel the humidity, guess it was going to be tough for everyone. The start was a fast one. After a minute, the leaders are already way ahead of me. I just try as hard to stay close at a distance but soon, can't "smell no smoke". I was just trying to keep a fast pace. I waqs happy that I managed to overtake Naresh and Cecil. Both were way ahead of me. Overtook Naresh first after the the hill at PICC, then Cecil (I think he wasn't in good form as normally I won't be able to get close to him). There were about 4-5 runners who overtook me during the run, but managed to overtake them back except for one. He just went faster and faster. Tried to push on my pace after crossing the final brigde and saw the final 2km mark, but I wasn't getting any closer. Crossing the finishing line, my watch time stopped at 47'44 and the guy gave me a card that read 14 (Position). Well, it's better than finishing 11th!
Quickly, I went to collect my sausages (pic), drinks and goodies bag before it gets too crowded. Then went for a change of clothes. I felt quite fresh after the run (unlike most races), makes me wonder whether I was pushing hard enough or it was run at night? But definitely, I will need to add in my speedrills & speedwork to correct my strides and improve my speed. Need to add in some strength training too. Mmh..maybe I should use the Clark Hatch 1 week free trial to use their gym equipments. Got a Clark Hatch near my place. Anybody interested to join me?
My sis took part in a 7.7km run as well and she did well to finish it. She wasn't sure she could before the start of the race. We went for supper at Sri Petaling spending some time at Putrajaya. Reached home only at around 1am. After my shower, I was trying to catch the recorded Stage 20 of Tour De France on the same night. It's the infamous Mount Ventoux stage and really want to find out how the stage went. After a while, I was like dozing off...so decided to go to bed and continue it tomorrow.
